Marko the Pencil is rapidly becoming Rock ’N Learn’s most loved character. Born in Pencilvania—from a forest of course—Marko discovered at an early age that he has a real knack for making kids laugh and helping them do their best on tests. His gentle coaching and humorous style allow students go into tests relaxed and prepared so that they can show off all that they know. Marko explains, “There’s no business like show business, and taking tests certainly qualifies as the perfect way to be a real show-off.”

In the evenings, Marko can be found performing at the Golden Stylus Comedy Club. Two of Marko’s DVDs, Reading Test-Taking Strategies and Math Test-Taking Strategies include bonus clips of Marko in action. Marko’s good friend, Mike Mechanical—a mechanical pencil who owns the Golden Stylus, says: “Marko is one sharp pencil, and he really knows how to work an audience. Sure, he bombs occasionally, but before he leaves the stage, he always gets gobs of giggles and thunderous applause.”

Marko recently completed work on Writing Strategies, a DVD program that Rock ’N Learn considers to be the best in the test-taking series and likely the company’s finest product. Marko uses his Writer’s Toolbox to help students, grades 4 and up, take their writing skills from mediocre to magnificent. Marko worked with a team of topnotch writing teachers to uncover the secrets for adding effective voice and detail, clear dialogue, engaging introductions, smooth transitions, and memorable conclusions.

Marko’s voice is played by American actor Vic Mignogna, whose Italian ancestry fits perfectly with Marko’s character. Vic is winner of Best Actor, 2007 American Anime Awards. Vic enjoys a huge fan base from the dozens of popular anime titles and video games that showcase his versatility as one of the world’s most sought-after voice actors. The Rock ’N Learn production team always enjoys working with Vic. His professionalismand riotous sense of humor make the work seem like… well, not work. Vic’s spontaneous adlibs frequently make it into the final soundtrack for Rock ’N Learn programs.
